About the Artist
In Catherine Martin’s words:
Catherine C. Martin has been painting for many years, doing her first oil at age 10. Her studies begin in her youth at a private art studio with classically trained painters. She went on to study art at East Carolina University and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington before settling into a career of art education as well as art director of a television studio.
In 1991, Catherine and her family moved to the Raleigh area. She began to concentrate on her painting taking classes at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Meredith College, and private lessons. In 1998 she became a full-time painter.
Her painting moves very quickly, alla prima style–meaning a painting is finished in one sitting. She describes her art as “a very personal experience that comes from the soul and reflects both sorrow and joy in life.” Her work is very emotional and can be categorized as expressionist painting. Her paintings are spontaneous, vibrant with color, and accentuated with extreme value.
